The Shining is a horror novel by American author Stephen King published in 1977
The

Shining focuses on Jack Torrence, a writer and recovering alcoholic, who accepts a position as an off-season caretaker in an isolated hotel called the Overlook Hotel. Jack's young son Danny possesses psychic abilities, which enable him to see aspects from the hotel's horrific past. Soon, the supernatural forces inhabiting the hotel influence Jack's sanity, leaving his wife and son in incredible danger.
