The plot of the film

The main storyline is that, despite many difficult life trials, friends

remain friends and remain loyal to officer friendship, duty and honor. They have come a long way together, participated side by side in the Civil and Patriotic wars, but always remained the same as in their youth.
The film tells about the life of Alexey Trofimov, who is shown in the first frames as a young cadet, and at the end of the film as a gray-haired army general. He is surrounded by his wife Lyubasha, son George and grandson Ivan. However, the film is not at all about the everyday problems of these people.
By a special coincidence, they are all military personnel. And it is this peculiarity of theirs that fundamentally affects the course of their stories, the decisions they make in various situations.
The main idea that the authors wanted to convey is that even in peacetime and in everyday affairs, officers remain noble. Because an officer's position is laid in a person from childhood, and with the development of character, the honesty of these people comes to the fore.
