In England, SATs is a colloquial name for National

Curriculum assessments (series of educational assessments).
They were introduced for 7-year-olds for the academic year ending July 1991, and for 11-year-olds in the academic year ending July 1995.
They are used to show your child's progress compared with other children born in the same month.
