Bjorn was born on December 30, 1950 in the city of

Aarhus.
Entered the University of Aarhus (Denmark) at the Department of Informatics. Having completed it (1975), he received a master's degree. Later he defended his thesis (Ph. D.) in computer science at the University of Cambridge (1979), working on the design of a distributed system in the computer lab of the University of Cambridge. Member of Churchill College.

In 1979, Stroustrup, along with his wife and daughter, moved to

New Jersey to go to work at the Bell Telephone Laboratories computer research center. In the same year he had a son, Nicholas.
From its founding to closure in 2002, when it merged with the research department of Texas A & M University, Björn was the head of the Large-scale Programming Research department at AT & T Bell Labs.

ANSI / ISO standard for C ++ and continues to work on maintaining and revising the standard.
In 1990, The C ++ Reference Manual for the C ++ Programming Language (“The Annotated C ++ Reference Manual”) received an award for excellence in technical documentation according to Dr. Dr. Dobb’s Journal.
According to the same journal, in 1994 the book Design and Evolution C ++ won the Productivity Award for helping programmers improve their source code.

Bjorn Straustrup was elected a member of the

National Academy of Engineering in the USA ("National Academy of Engineering") in 2004 for "creating the C ++ language".
As the first computer scientist, he was awarded ("William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement from Sigma Xi") by the American research community in 2005.
