In Russia, the history of the profession of

a nurse has its roots in the 18th century. And it begins with the appearance of the service of sympathetic widows.
The idea of establishing systematic patient care by specially trained staff of the widow's home for these purposes belongs to Empress Maria Feodorovna. Back in 1804 she put forward the idea of attracting widows to care for the sick in the Moscow widow's home, but only in 1813 these plans were realized in St. Petersburg.
